Honda GL1800 "Californian II" Ultra Comfort Windshield by Cee Bailey's Aircraft Plastics for the GL1800: This is a newly released windshield meant for the colder Fall and Winter Months. It measures 26.5" tall from the front rubber fairing strip and 32" wide at the bottom of the shield. This windshield is obviously made to look through and not over. It has their "Euro" cut top which really does look neat. It also gives the rider and passenger extra left and right torso protection due to the extended apex corners of this shield which a standard domed shield does not have. Carm really liked it, but said she really didn't feel any more protection than their regular standard height shield that we usually use. Although I had been used to looking through windshields in the past, I have to admit that I have gotten used to having the option of looking over by just sitting up a little straighter with their standard windshield or relaxing a little more and looking through it. I had them send me their light gray tint with their built-in NACA Aerospace style vent that I like so much on their standard windshield. But on this tall windshield, I have to put in their vent blocker because I found the wind hit me directly on the chest area without it. This may be fine in the summer, but not in the winter. They also have the Visor Vent that is similar to Honda's. I now think that is the way to go so that it could also be used during the summer without baking behind a windshield of this size. Honda GL1800 & GL1500 Summer Sportshields by Cee Bailey's Aircraft Plastics: Now these are very good looking and work well if you normally ride without a passenger. They are available in three heights, 8", 9.5" and the one I ordered, 11.5". They are available in 4 colors and clear. The one I picked is dark gray. Only the 8" size is available in opaque black. You can even order Laser engraving which is available on all full size and sport shields for Goldwings. You can even supply the artwork if you wish. A vent is only available on the 11.5" model, but I opted for no vent and really can't see the need for one. Carm really complained that she was being beaten up by the wind that was hitting her, but I had none to speak of. What I am leading up to is that you will be a very unhappy rider if you ride two up as your passenger might complain a lot. Check out their website by clicking on their link button to the left.

Cee Bailey's new GL1800 windshield caused me a little concern when I received it due to the style of the open vent it has. Surprise, surprise, it actually equalizes the pressure and is especially ducted to help alleviate wind, rain, bugs from getting to you or your passenger. When installing it, I found that you must be sure that the windshield garnish locating tabs are placed under the fairing tabs. Also, it helps if you lubricate the slides on the backside for easier adjusting for the windshield height. Carm (my fulltime passenger) let me know immediately that she had less wind across her chest. You have to understand that I have always had a Tulsa windshield on my wings. Now we find that we both have less wind hitting us, much less turbulence when following trucks or large vehicles and better rain control as well. There is a pleasant light breeze around the helmet area. I have ridden this windshield in enough rainstorms to find that afterwards, when I clean it, there are dried rain drops only about a half inch around the vent on the inside. I also found that the inside of the windshield does not get wet anywhere else. In addition, I had plenty of opportunity to see debris and bugs that made it through the vent, leave to the side of the windshield and stay about an inch from the windshield. Thus never coming close to Carm or me. I attribute the lack of annoying wind also to the squarer and wider windshield. Since it retains the stock adjustability, I tried it at full height and then lowered it to about an inch from the lowest it would go and we didn't feel any different so that is where I left it. I still look through it, but have the option of looking over it if desired. Keep in mind that I am 5'-7" short. This windshield is 2" shorter than OEM to 4" taller than the OEM. Due to the extra thickness, they also supply two needed washers. Keep in mind that these windshields are made by a company that makes windshield for aircraft and you will understand why there is no distortion and absolute clearness in them even though I ordered the tinted (light gray) windshield. The windshield sells for $159 to $169 plus $11 for shipping in the US. Check out their website by clicking on their button to the left.

Cee Bailey's comes out with tinted Headlight & Driving Light Armor: They now have tinted shields for the GL1800 headlights and Fog/Driving lights. The headlight armor (SRP $49.95/pair) now comes in either clear or amber that matches the turn signal lights. They also have the fog/driving light shields in clear, yellow, amber and blue. (SRP for OEM lights $15.00/set or Tulsa/Electrical Connection concaved Style @ $19.95/set. Carm & I went on a poker run put on by the local chapter of the Blue Knights and I asked them if they would consider these legal. Their answer was: "as long as they are not red or blue". Of course this would not be a very good argument should you get stopped by a cop and probably would just depend on whether you and they were having a good day or not. Personally, Carm & I really like the Amber as it makes everything in front match. The picture doesn't really do it justice, but you can at least get the idea. The bike really stands out from the crowd and in my opinion that is how we get seen. They now have clear and yellow headlight armor for the GL1500 & ST1100. Cee Bailey's Aircraft Plastics has come out with an exceptional set of Headlight & Fog Light Armor for the GL1800. As you can see in the photo, the headlight armor is in two pieces (SRP $49.95/set). It is made from eighth inch aircraft grade acrylic, made from cast acrylic, type 1, grade C aerospace quality standard for unshrunk material. It does not block any of the light and has about a quarter inch space between the armor and the headlight glass. So the armor takes the hit from stones and other road debris rather than your glass. It is kept on by using their 3M Low Profile DUAL LOCK™ that is both lightweight and flexible and has higher tensile and shear strength than traditional hook and loop fasteners. It is "clear" in color and comes with a clear 3M Acrylic adhesive that sticks great. They have two styles of Fog Light Guards. A flat style for the OEM fog lights and concaved that fits concave style of the Tulsa and Electrical Connections fog lights. The fog lights come in clear (SRP $15.00/set) or amber ($19.95/set). If you use your fog lights during the day time to mainly stand out and be seen more easily like I do, then the amber covers work out great. If your using your fog lights mostly in the evenings for added light than I would recommend the clear. They are even easily interchangeable and take all of about a minute to change both of them. When you figure the price of replacing your headlights, not even mentioning the time it would take, this protection is really a necessity. Just like your windshield, you don't want to clean the armor with any paper towel, Windex or 409 as they will leave fine scratches. If you don't like them after you buy them, they do have a money back guaranty. You can reach them by calling (800) 788-0618 or check out their website by clicking on their button to the left. |
