Specialized Hearing Systems by EAR Inc.: It used to be thought that only people that ride loud bikes needed to wear earplugs. Now there are earplugs for all riders and co-riders. I recently found out that I have Tinnitis, which my symptom is a constant hissing sound. I have been told that this is caused by load noises over a period of time. Since I am not around loud noises, I can only think that it was caused by wind noise over the years I have been riding. At Gold Rush XV in Durango, Colorado, I had a set of Musician's Earplugs custom made for me. They injected my ears with a silicone that molded to my ears and wow, now I know what it must feel like to be almost completely deaf. I picked the #9 attenuator buttons as that is used when a small amount of protection is adequate. I figured it should filter out the wind noise and leave me with good reception from my headsets. When I tried them on the way back to my motel and on various rides around Durango, I was actually able to hear the music and the voices clearer than without the earplugs. As you can see in the photo, there is a tiny beige tube with a filter in it that extends out and picks up the sounds from the J&M headsets that I have in my Arai helmets while all but totally eliminating the wind noise, no matter what my speed or how windy it is. I was amazed. I also was not aware of how much wind noise there is in a top of the line full-face helmet. I can now hear the CB much clearer and also can appreciate the new CD Player I installed. The little red and clear handles are to depict which ear they go in and to help remove the earplugs from your ears. On their website you will find a chart of the different filters available as well as other styles and colors. The suggested retail price is $130.00/set and in my opinion, worth every penny. You can reach EAR, Inc. by clicking on their link button to the left. When you go to their home page, you will find a link to FreeHearingTest.com where you can take a simulated free hearing test online and read more about wind noise in their About hearing Section.
